Mara Karlin

Mara Karlin is director of strategic studies at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. She is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. Karlin has served in national security roles for five US secretaries of defence, and most recently served as the deputy assistant secretary of defence for strategy and force development. She is the author of Building Militaries in Fragile States: Challenges for the United States.
