Michelle Bachelet assumed her functions as the seventh United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in 2018. She was elected president of Chile on two occasions (2006–2010 and 2014–2018), and previously served as health minister and defence minister. In 2010 she chaired the Social Protection Floor Advisory Group, a joint International Labor Organization and World Health Organization initiative. In 2011, she became the inaugural director of UN Women. More recently she also chaired the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and co-chaired the High-Level Steering Group for Every Woman Every Child.
